Day 1: Cape Town to Prince Albert

We set off from Cape Town along the N1, passing through the impressive 4 km Huguenot Tunnel. Our first stop is De Wet Wine Cellar for a quick tasting of local wines. After that, we freshen up at the Veldskoen Padstal (road stall), known for its charming farm goods and refreshments.

An hour later, we reach the quaint, historic village of Matjiesfontein. Soaked in colonial charm, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a light lunch and cold beverage.

We then take the last stretch to Prince Albert, where you'll check into your luxurious 5-star accommodation. The afternoon is spent exploring this jewel of the Karoo. We'll visit a cheese maker, browse a few art galleries, and wander the peaceful streets.

Dinner is served at an authentic local restaurant offering hearty South African farm cuisine.

Day 2: Prince Albert to Oudtshoorn

Just outside of Prince Albert begins one of South Africa’s most iconic dirt passes – the Swartberg Pass, engineered by Thomas Bain and completed in 1888. With its panoramic views and historical significance, we’ll make several photo stops along the way.

At the foot of the pass, we join the 11:00 guided tour of the Cango Caves, South Africa’s oldest tourist attraction. Marvel at the spectacular limestone formations on this hour-long adventure.

A short drive away, we visit an ostrich farm to learn about these curious birds—and even feed them.

We then check in at a 4-star Game Lodge. After a light lunch (optional), we’ll head into town for a bit of shopping. Explore beautiful local crafts and a variety of ostrich products.

In the late afternoon, enjoy a 2-hour game drive where you'll likely spot rhinos, Cape buffalo, giraffes, mountain zebras, kudu, nyala, springbok, and more. A scenic stop during the drive offers drinks with a view of the Klein Karoo.

Dinner is served at the lodge, followed by a restful night in your luxury safari tent.

Day 3: Oudtshoorn – Elephants, Olives & Waterfalls

Start the day with a buffet breakfast (available from 07:00). At 08:45, gather for what many say is the highlight of the tour – an intimate encounter with three gentle African elephants, raised by Joseph and his team after being orphaned due to poaching. You’ll feed and even receive a hug from these majestic animals.

After freshening up, we head off to a renowned olive estate (approx. 45 mins drive), known for producing some of the best olive oil in South Africa. Enjoy a 40-minute guided tasting and light lunch at the estate.

Post-lunch, we visit the breathtaking Meiringspoort Waterfall, hidden in a deep ravine 12 km from De Rust. With a 60-meter cascade ending in a 9-meter deep rock pool, it’s a great spot to cool off—bring a swimsuit!

Return to the game lodge in time for a sunset drink by the lake and another delicious dinner. Rest again in your luxury tent.

Day 4: Oudtshoorn to Barrydale via Swartberg & Calitzdorp

Today’s journey takes us on a scenic dirt road along the Swartberg Mountain Range, with stops to admire local art and breathtaking landscapes.

We stop at the farm of Peter, an award-winning port producer (2nd place in Portugal, 2025). A tasting of his renowned Cape Vintage is included—it’s a visit you won’t want to end.

We continue to Nel’s River Dam for more incredible views, and on to Calitzdorp, the “Port Capital of South Africa.” More port tasting opportunities await, as well as a light lunch.

We ascend the Huis River Pass and reach Barrydale, stopping at the iconic and quirky Ronnie’s Sex Shop (just a bar, we promise).

Once checked in at your welcoming hotel, we take a short town drive and enjoy a gourmet milkshake at Diesel & Crème. For the lactose-intolerant or brandy lovers, an optional visit to Joseph Barry Distillery can be arranged.

Dinner is at the hotel, and if you’re lucky, there may be live entertainment or a classic film showing.

Day 5: Barrydale to Cape Town

Travel through scenic Montagu, stopping at a dried fruit factory shop before continuing through Cogmanskloof Pass and tunnel. Look up to see the ruins of an old British fort from the Second Boer War.

Outside Robertson, we visit a premier Cape Classic (champagne) estate, where their Cuvée Clive 2019 recently placed 10th at the 2025 London Wine Fair.

Afterward, we head to Rawsonville for a relaxed tea and snack break before the scenic drive over Du Toitskloof Pass, with a final stop for an unforgettable view over Paarl and toward Table Mountain.

We then return to your Cape Town hotel, where we bid our sad but fond farewells—until we meet again!
